Chunky Cabled Hat

Materials:

Half a skein Lion Brand Wool-ease Chunky or any chunky weight yarn

Size 11 16" circulars

Size 11 dpn's

Cable needle

Yarn needle

1 stitch marker

Pattern notes:
C4B-Sl2 sts onto cable needle(CN)and hold to back of work. K2 from needle, k2 from CN.

C4F-Sl2 sts onto CN and hold in front of work. K2 from needle, k2 from CN.

C3B-Sl1 st onto CN and hold to back of work. K2 from needle, k1 from CN.

C3F-Sl2 sts onto CN and hold in front of work. K1 from needle, k2 from CN.


Cast on 60 stitches, place marker and join round.

Knit 4 rows of 2x2 rib.

Rnd 1: K8, p2, C4B, C4F, p2.

Rnd 2, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 12, 14: K8, p2.

Rnd 3: K8, p2, k2, C4F, k2, p2.

Rnd 5: K8, p2, k1, C3B, C3F, k1, p2.

Rnd 7: K8, p2, C3B, k2, C3F, p2.

Rnd 11: K8, p2, C3F, k2, C3B, p2.

Rnd 13: K8, p2, k1, C3F, C3B, k1, p2.


Work one full pattern repeat then work first 4 rows (5 1/2"). Start decrease rows as follows:

Dec rnd 1: K2tog, k4, K2tog, p2, k1, C3B, C3F, k1, p2.

Dec rnd 2, 4, 6, 8: K the k's, P the p's.

Dec rnd 3: K2tog, k2, k2tog, p2, C3B, k2, C3F, p2.

Dec rnd 5: K2tog, K2tog, p2, k8, p2.

Dec rnd 7: K2tog, p2, C3F, k2, C3B, p2.

Dec rnd 9: K1, p2, k1, C3F, C3B, k1, p2.

Dec rnd 10: K1, p2, k2tog (4x), p2.


Cut yarn leaving a tail for yarn needle, thread needle and pass through the remaining stitches and pull tight. Weave in ends.

Zig Zag Stripe Hat and Scarf

Materials:

Patons SWS in Natural Plum or any worsted weight yarn,

just over half for hat and the rest plus 1 for scarf

Size 9 16" circulars

Size 9 dpn's

Yarn needle

1 stitch marker

Size 8 needles for scarf

Pattern for hat:

Cast on 77 stitches, place stitch marker and join round.

Knit 4 rows even then 4 rows of 1x1 rib. Knit one row even.

Row 1: *K2, k2tog, yo, k3*; rep to marker.

Row 2 and all even rows: Knit.

Row 3: *K1, k2tog, yo, k4*; rep to marker.

Row 5: Knit.

Row 7: *K3, yo, sl1, k1, psso, k2*; rep to marker.

Row 9: *K4, yo, sl1, k1, psso, k1*; rep to marker.

Row 11: Knit.

Row 12: Knit.

I worked these 12 rows twice before I started the decrease rows but when I make another one I plan on repeating the first 6 rows one more time.

Dec Row 1: *K2tog, k6*; rep to last 5sts, k2tog, k3.

Dec Row 2: *K5, k2tog*; rep to last 4sts, k4.

Dec Row 3: *K2tog, k4*; rep to last 5sts, k2tog, k3.

Dec Row 4: *K3, k2tog*; rep to last 3sts, k3.

Dec Row 5: *K2tog, k2*; rep to last st, k1.

Dec Row 6: *K1, k2tog*; rep to last st, k1.

Dec Row 7: *K2tog*; rep to marker.

Cut yarn leaving a tail for yarn needle, thread needle and pass through the remaining stitches and pull tight. Weave in ends.

Scarf:

Cast on 22sts.

Work 4 rows of garter stitch as follows:

(RS): Sl1, knit to last st; sl1.

(WS): P1, Knit to last st; p1.

Row 1(RS): Sl1, k1, yo, k2tog, *k2, k2tog, yo, k3; repeat from * to last 4sts, ssk, yo, k1, sl1.

Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl.

Row 3: Sl1, k1, yo, k2tog, *k1, k2tog, yo, k4; repeat from * to last 4sts, ssk, yo, k1, sl1.

Row 5: Sl1, k1, yo, k2tog, k14, ssk, yo, k1, sl1.

Row7: Sl1, k1, yo, k2tog, *k3, yo, sl1, k1, psso, k2; repeat from * to last 4sts, ssk, yo, k1, sl1.

Row 9: Sl1, k1, yo, k2tog, *k4, yo, sl1, k1, psso, k1; repeat from * to last 4sts, ssk, yo, k1, sl1.

Row 11: Sl1, k1, yo, k2tog, k14, ssk, yo, k1, Sl1.

Row 12: Purl.

Work these 12 rows until scarf measures approx. 60". Work 4 rows of garter as in the beginning and bind off. Weave in ends and block*.

*Scarf will curl unless it is blocked.
